26 Events. 3 Weeks. 171 Performers. 5,000+ Community Members Attending & Participating

“It’s really important at a time of real crisis for live music in the City of Preston that events like the Jazz Festival shine a light on what a vibrant & life affirming thing ‘live performance' is - the exchange between talent and audience. The Guild Hall & Charter theatre have been shut for what is years now and many pubs have closed their doors too. Independent festivals like this, utilising remaining (and growing) great venues like The Ferret remind us that nothing can replace live music, not even AI.”

“Being invited to be a part of Preston Expression was a fantastic opportunity and experience for me. It is great to see UCLan supporting not just local talent, but local rap specifically. Rap in Preston despite its long history has been historically underrepresented and lacking wider support in the city. I hope this event can change that and we see more events like this going forwards. That support different art forms and cultures. I want to say a special thank you to Benji Marks, The Ferret, and Tony Rigg for making this event such a success.”

The Festival is supported by Arts Council England, Preston City Council, University of Central Lancashire, the School of Arts and Media, Music Research Group. (c) 2024 Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival.
